How adoption works
Adopting from a rescue isn't complicated — it's five steps, a bit of paperwork and one very good day. Here's exactly what to expect.
The five steps
Step 1
Enquire
Found someone on the animals page? Send an enquiry from their profile. We'll phone you back for a chat about your home, your family and what you're looking for.
Step 2
Meet and greet
Come spend time together at the kennels — bring the whole household, including your current dog if you have one. Sparks either fly or they don't; we never force a match.
Step 3
Home check
A volunteer pops round to check fences, gates and where the animal will sleep. It's a friendly visit, not an inspection — we mostly drink your coffee and admire your garden.
Step 4
Sterilise and chip
Before going home, every animal is sterilised, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. If a puppy or kitten is too young, sterilisation is booked and included in the fee.
Step 5
Homecoming
You fetch your new family member, we all pretend not to cry, and you get a two-week trial period plus lifetime backup — if it ever doesn't work out, they come back to us, no judgement.
What it costs
Dogs R950 · Cats R750. The fee covers sterilisation, all vaccinations, deworming and a microchip — done privately, that's R2,500 or more. We charge less than cost because the point is homes, not profit.
Senior animals like Oupa Joe go home for half price, and their first year of chronic medication is on us.
What we'll ask of you
- Everyone in the household must be on board with the adoption
- Secure fencing for dogs, and time — a new animal needs a settling-in period
- If you rent, written permission from your landlord
- Current pets should be sterilised and vaccinated
- An ID and proof of address for the adoption contract
